sanding discs

Just looking at Craft Supplies site, there are lots of sanding discs and holders. Is there a particular kind that is better than others? I am currently sanding all my turnings (bowls, pens, etc) with small strips of sandpaper. It does get a little old on the fingers with bigger projects. I have not done any power sanding yet but I was thinking of starting. I was hoping that I could get some good honest advice here on what I should get to start with. I was looking at the 2 inch wave sanding system. Is there any difference in the different discs and disc holders?

I have read a lot of good things about 'Vinces WoodNWonders' - the blue pads

I actually plan ordering from him soon. An entire 2" starter set is ~$30.

I have used the wave sanding system, but I never actually got the matching pad. I only used them with the standard round backing pads, but had used them with succcess. Vinces products are suppose to be superior the to the wave pads.

Big choices are between the electric and the air powered sanding gear -- the small air random orbital sanders are very nice but the compressor is noisy and they do eat lots of air. Angle drills are the lower costs way to go -- I am still using a cheap knockoff of the Sioux angle drill. Bearings are getting noisy, but it works.

I am watching this thread since I have the same question. Would a right angle powered drill be the way to go?
