HRB

Yes it and several other species can be imported into the USA under CITES by the suppliers but cannot be exported without repermitting CITES permits which are way too much trouble to try to obtain.

There are other suppliers like Tropical Hardwoods Inc that can and do have the ability to permit it by drop shipping.

"Honduras rosewood (Dalbergia Stevensonii) was put on the
CITES III list (Council On International Trade In Endangered Species)
in 2007 in hopes that the wood will not become endangered.
Tropical Hardwoods, Inc. and our suppliers have CITES permits,
allowing us to sell to any country in the world"

Basically it is too much red tape for the profits involved as it is an expensive wood to start with especial the burls.

Thank you for your prompt reply, I don't remember to have heard anything about this and I understand what you mean about "red tape" I don't blame you for your decision...!

I have had people commenting about the difficulty to find HRB anywhere so, I knew that something was up, and quite frankly, I'm not that surprised , we all have given this wood and others, far too much value therefore creating an almost open invitation to get unscrupulous timber importers to pay good money for those trees to be cut down and shipped over, for the "natives" that's only a good opportunity to make a few dollars to alleviate their miserable way of living, while the big timber guys, are making big fortunes out of it...!

Despite all this, that is a well know "reality", the burls from this wood are in fact some of the most beautiful pieces of wood I, and many others, ever saw so, is maybe time that we all see HRB as a product that can not sustain the demand we all are so guilt of, and look for alternatives to take the pressure and the temptation to pay to get these trees cut, in the first place.

I mean no disrespect and you should admit/accept that everything I said is true and correct, you are very lucky to have some of it to sell...!

Cheers
George

Native trees becoming "endangered" in that part of the world are often going on the list as much because of clearing land by "slash and burn" methods as by lumbering for logs.
Appendix III – This appendix contains species that a certain country (called a "party" within CITES), has voluntarily requested to be regulated in order to help preserve the species in question. Appendix III species regulation is only applicable for the specific party that has requested its inclusion, and is therefore much less restrictive than Appendix I or II.
Guatamala is the country for which this species is regulated under CITES.

As I checked ads for this wood it seems that much of it comes from Belize and other countries which is why it is so widely available.

Please remember that the classifieds is not a section for discussions like this - please open a thread in casual conversation if you want to discuss CITES provisions.
