Taking a break from pen turning I "turned " to cars. The local Children's Hospital has asked for small toys for the kids to play with and decorate while waiting for appointments or procedures. It's a fun project and at the end you have not one but two toys.

I do a gift giving program for underprivileged children and these would be a good addition to what we already do. I'll have to look into them for sure. I do recall that they were made in a four way challenge a few months ago. Question for your though, what do you use for a blank size?

If you google lathe cars they suggest simple 2x4's. I use the basic dimensions of a 2x4 but out of some harder wood: oak, maple, walnut etc. to reduce the tear out.
Prefect, I can have my sawyer rip me some dimensional sized pieces of cherry, maple, ambrosia maple and walnut. Should be a good variety of color and tone that way. I appreciate it very much.
