Salvaging pen components

Sometimes pen components get tiny scratch marks due to poor, careless handling during assembly or measuring them for fitment. Most often with cheap plating and occasionally even with better quality plating.
Have others experienced this?
Is there a way to salvage after the damage has been done?

I've managed to clean up both plain plastic and plated parts with One Step, and lately I've used Wright's Brass polish and a light touch for plated parts. You want to be careful with anything that's been lacquered or otherwise coated as the polish will remove the coating. And use a light touch: you can't put the plating back on if you rub it off!

Thanks Jerry. I will try with the One Step and Brasso which I think is the same as your Wright's Brass polish. I have a few extra parts from some kits that are leftovers and will experiment with them. It will be a learning experience for me.
