My brother in law has been sailing around the world for the past 10 or 12years. He finally decided to come visit. And with him came stuff he needed fixed on his 40 year old boat. One of these projects was a cap for his boom. He asked me if I could machine him one of these (see the ugly cast, broken, cracked, and welded piece in the pictures).

He knowing nothing thinks I can make anything. Imagine his disappointment when I said nope, not a chance. It would either need to be cast or made on a CNC mill. So, I decided to ask Mike Redburn if he thought he could do it. Sure, he said. Really?, I said. Then I decided to press my luck, and could we make some modifications to the original design.

See the pretty, shiny new piece machined from a solid block of aluminum. I just thought some of you might like to know Mike doesn't just make nice pen parts out of silver. Thanks Mike, now my BIL can sail away for a few more years:biggrin:
