PSI....Temporarily Halting Business
Dear valued Penn State Industries Customers - we are closed until further notice. You will not be able to place orders until further notice. We appreciate your understanding and we hope you stay safe and healthy.

Horrible sign of the times. Is the economy going to get worse and then better, or worse, worse and slightly better. I feel bad for the company & employees. I'm curious how people eat/pay bills without a paycheck. Going deep into debt is a crusher.

Frank, fortunately I'm retired and have both my SS and my pension coming in. My wife however is self employed and all her spring shows have been canceled and summer ain't looking too good. She sells some of her things on Etsy and has an antique in one of the malls. So were getting by, just had to tighten up.
I feel for these people who are completely out of a job or businesses who've had to shutter the buildings. I honestly don't see a way a large percentage of them are going ti make it through this pandemic without losing everything they have. I guess all we can do is pray this thing's over soon and people can get back to normal.

It's impacting a lot of people all over the country. I was staying very busy first part of the year and I thought this would be my best year ever. March came along and everything came to a halt and I mean a halt. My biggest customer in Hawaii closed his doors until this passes. What I've done for my customers who ordered stuff then had to shut down was just hold their orders in my shop so that when they do reopen they'll have some inventory to start with. I also changed my payment terms to 60 days so they could get some cash flow going before paying my invoice.
There are SBA loans available and from what I understand is that if you keep paying your employees that portion of the loan is a grant and you don't have to pay it back. There is light at the end of the tunnel, things will get better...I just hope sooner than later.

But people need to follow the guidelines. Just the other day I saw live on the news the Comfort coming into NY. People all over the walkways, no masks and gathered in large groups. Next day I see on the news again in NY where people are applauding the Nurses and First Responders during their shift changes. The nurses and FD were all gathered together, no masks and in a very large group. You can't get a virus under control if your not willing to take the steps to keep it in check.

I talked with a guy at PSI and he did tell me things were slowing down. I know my purchases went from just at $700.00 for January and Febuary each to just over $200.00 in March and zero this month. Companies like PSI will probably do okay, it's the little guys who will get hit the hardest and probably many won't make it.

Keep the faith, stay safe and healthy. This will pass!

The thing is we will all come out of this and yes it will take time. You will not see the best of the best again for over a year. Maybe some companies will not survive, but I believe many will come back Have to remember they all started with nothing and the knowledge base was zero. They have a few things going for them, They gained knowledge when they got the business up and running, they have contacts they did not have before they started and they have a following they developed over the years. On line businesses such as PSI will come back with no problem. Right now they are suffering personnel issues but the above is in place for them. This will not go away in a few weeks, heck it will be with us for a year or longer if "it" returns in the fall. But hopefully we have a vaccine or cure to combat it. I do believe the economy will be strong again. All signs are there. Maybe some positives will emerge from this such as people thinking of the future and stop being so easy with the money and buying things just because. The old adage save for a rainy day does work. This is how I was brought up. But you see familys have to have the best of the best, and their kids with the best electronics and whatever they want. Well maybe this is a wake up call. Put some cash on the side. I remember many years ago when we were kids and my Dad who worked in Shell Oil went on strike for over 6 months. 4 kids, wife, mortgage and all the bills and no money coming in except a few dollars from a strike fund they had. He found about 3 jobs that were maintenance jobs and different hours but he provided and that Christmas was the best Christmas we all had. My point is in this country there is opportunities all around us so we can survive and these small businesses will come out on the other side. Hopefully some of these plans in place will help. The saddest part of this virus is the death rate and illness rate. Again there are lessons to be learned there and hoping that the Gov. takes notes as well as the American people and all countries. Like with all disasters the scum also rise up and show their ugly heads,to the top and that is what pisses me off. We all know what I am saying.

Stay strong and stay safe. We will get through this.

I followed a link to a table saw dust shroud on PSI 30 minutes ago and saw that notice. I sure hope it's not due to a shortage of healthy employees. I also wondered when i saw it--if they are still supplying their re-sellers, like Exotic Blanks and Bear Tooth.
Better days are ahead!!

This is very sad, and unfortunate.

I just placed an order on 4/6***. I was placing orders with all the companies I use, to help out by providing business. i was thinking ahead and just ordering what I'd like to make as Christmas gifts. If you love working with a company, see what you can do to order from them. I'm sure every little bit helps, especially the mom and pop shops, who we all know and love.

For all of you who have had your shows canceled, I am so very sorry.

Perhaps on a positive note, this is the time we can focus on making some of those projects that are more complex that we always put off, or learning that new technique that you have not been able to put time towards. Or just making all the kits in the drawers that we have forgotten about.

Please stay safe, I hope you all weather the storm.

***amended, I just received shipping confirmation. So looks like they may be closing out all their open orders.

Interestingly enough I stopped by Rockler this morning and they were open for business. You could go in the store or call them and pay online and they will bring it out to your car. Bought some pen kits and accelerator and glue. They said that their warehouses were getting low on supplies. Are woodworking stores considered essential businesses?

They are probably considered essential business because they carry tools and supplies that can be used for home repair.

No, they are not! But, as long as they can do carry out, and still maintain a safe distance from you they can stay open. Plus, you must use a credit, debit or gift card to pay for the items you wish to purchase. You can get all of the info on how they are now operating, at the Rockler internet site. It is wise to sign up for their daily postings, they have plenty of special offers there. Plus, there's free shipping on orders over thirty -five dollars.

Actually they are considered an essential business In many areas. It states this on their website and gives some location by location specifics. In some cases they closed until they received clarification on their 'essential' status and then reopened.

Had an e-mail from Johnson's Workbench (Charlotte, MI and South Bend, IN) that they are now closed for the virus. Large wood dealer in central Michigan. I wish well for the South Bend crew.

My order from last got shipped. It's in the mail. Got bad news today about a person I knew from the old neighbor. Very successful and gave back to the community. Owned food stores in NJ. Virus got him. Sad day. He was the kind of person that should have lived forever.

My understanding was that Pennsylvania recently tightened up their stay at home and Penn State got caught up. Fortunately the curve is such now that they should only be shuttered for a brief time.

Temporarily Suspending Operations
Penn State Industries will temporarily suspend operations until Monday, April 27, so we can make adjustments to our operations, including bringing specialists in to thoroughly clean and sanitize the building. All orders that have already been placed will ship out by Thursday, April 9. We appreciate your understanding and we hope you stay safe and healthy.
