Hi guys,
I know I haven't been around a lot. Thing had been pretty chaotic around here... It got worse this past weekend.
Those that didn't know, I had my mom living next door. She was 79 and wheelchair bound after having a heart attach and then refusing to follow direction walked without her walker. She had slipped and broke her hip. After that she couldn't walk for more than 10 feet at a time or so.
On Friday, we knew she wasn't feeling well. She didn't say anything was hurting or bothering her, but she wasn't eating like she would normally. On Saturday morning, she was out of it. Her eyes were glazed over and if she would answer you, all she would do is mumble back whatever you said to her.
We took her to the ER, and they started pumping fluids in as quickly as they could. That evening they moved her to the ICU. During the night a lung collapsed. As they tried to re-inflate it, her heart gave out.
She was a remarkable woman. She was a physical therapist and dedicated her life to early intervention for developmental disabilities. She worked for United Cerebral Palsy of Greater New Orleans for over 35 years. She gave numerous talks worldwide. Even after retiring for UCP, she went to work for the parish library. There she really focused on reading to and working with the little kids.
Not sure how soon I'll be back at things. There's lots to do, but I wanted to give everyone a heads up. I know I owe a couple people pens for PITHs. I'll try to remember to get those sent as soon as possible. Thank you for you understanding and thanks in advance for any thoughts & prayers. They really are appreciated.
