Well, I finally took the step of turning pens myself.
I am working on designing a "Route 66 – The Mother Road" pen and am looking for some ideas. I already found some small Route 66 road sign stickers that work great when CA'd to wood.
The stickers are pretty large though, 1 x 1, so a larger pen would be needed so, my first question is what pen kit would you suggest?
Second, I would like to make the pen out of a black wood to simulate the black asphalt, split in half with a small piece of oak going through the center. This is to simulate a Route 66 road sign placed on a pole. I purchased some black ebony from Woodcraft and it was too soft. What kind of black wood would you suggest that is pretty hard?
Outside of what glue to use to piece the oak together, I think I can figure the rest out. If not, I know where to go.
As a final note, I would love to use an black acrylic blank with a piece of oak sandwiched between the cut but have not mastered adding CA to an acrylic blank yet.
Thanks if advance.
