Greetings!

I inherited a lathe a couple months ago.My Dad was turning a pen for my Mom and sadly passed away before he could finish it.I picked up the torch and attended a class at woodcraft just to figure out what the heck I was doing!

Since that one class I have completed about 10 pens and the list has begun from family members wanting a pen turned on Dad's machine.I get a real sense of closeness with Pop as I am using the same tools as he did.Now I just have to figure out all the attachments!!!

This forum has become a godsend and a boon.I get all the info I need and projects that are going to take a long time to get right.

But with Tuteledge I am on my way......

Thanks for the forum!!!!

Way to go and welcome to one of the best hobbies on earth. My daughter just won her state volleyball tournament and I'm trying to design a "championship pen". The list grows, and grows and .......

Welcome from sunny southern California!

Here are a few links for reference –
This link has postings by different pen turners on what they wish they had known earlier:

This link tells of some "out of the box" tools/aids for pen turners http://www.penturners.org/forum/showthread.php?t=66178

This one is a PDF on the acronyms used here. I am sure you know many but this will help with those you don't. http://content.penturners.org/articl...9/Acronyms.pdf

Sorry for your loss. You have taken up the torch and it will keep you close to your father and make your bond with him stronger even though he is gone. Welcome to the forum and to pen turning.
