I GOT IT !!!
would love to have one of pauls vises but could'nt wait any longer so I purchased the new vice that Rockler has.
Have not had it long enough to give a full review but so far it is very impressive . I used it to drill a Redwood lace burl and an Alibaster blank for a couple of Pacificas and it worked like a charm the only problem I had was with my drill press , this thing was not made for a benchtop drill press , it stands almost 6" high at the vise jaws so I had to make a new table to replace the factory table that came on my press this lowered the working hight enough to fit the vise and my longest drill bit .
The vise holds the blanks very firmly and supports most of the blank so even the alibaster blank drilled without a problem .
Then comes the best part...this thing is also a pen press to put pens together and as a press it also works very well , it applies a very smooth and even pressure to the pen parts .
Overall this is an expensive ($79.99) but very functional drill vise/pen press and well worth the money

I will try to get some photos up tonight .
the inserts are made of MDF and measure 1" x 1 3/8" X 3/8" and will be very easy to make as many as needed out of any kind of wood

BTW.. If you buy a piece of 1/2" drill rod, you should be able to chuck that drill rod in your drill press and with the Rockler jig loose, clamp down on it. Now with the vice clamped solid to the drill chuck you can lock the Rockler jig down to the drill press table perfectly every time.
