An interesting, dynamic force in computer and related items development.

Hopefully in some high school somewhere there is a budding replacement.

The USA NEEDS men like Steve Jobs. But the last few years he did not look good---he is now at peace.

Being in the I.T. computer support business he and a few others built the personal computer industry into what it is today. He'll be sorely missed.

God! I hate this!!!!!

He was one of the people that made America such a GREAT place. He and Bill Gates started in "some parents" garage, armed only with a lot desire, some knowledge, a dream that the best was yet to come and a the determination to advance beyond the rank of "goober" or "dreamer boys".

These two men reshaped the face of not only our nation, but, indeed, our planet! I sometimes think that without the determination and vision of Jobs that we would be stuck in "it can't be done"

Oh, yeah! and one more thing...............I think that it is most fitting that he got to live through one more late summer/ early fall "rollout". As soon as the "ney sayers" finish bashing Iphone 4S, and realize that Apple still stands head and shoulders above most all other products, his "baby" will continue to be the pride of our nation.

You WILL BE MISSED, Steve!

Pixar, Apple - the man was definitely a visionary and will be missed.

I agree about hating cancer... A friend from high school passed away a week ago at 41, plus we have one family member in the final stages and another actively fighting it after it recently returned. Blech.

I'm not a huge fan of Apple products myself, but he did create a company that had become a force to take seriously.

It is an unfortunate shame of his passing as with anyone that we lose.

Bought my first Mac in 1985 and have never stopped since

Jobs will go down as one of the greatest in our countries history with the likes of Franklin, Edison, and Ford.

Certainly a sad day

Didn't realize he was in final stages. Very sad. My only brother died a few years ago at 21 from the disease. Hopefully a cure will be found!

He will be missed. I actually feel like I lost a close friend and I never met the man. But I have owned dozens of his company's innovations.

On a completely different note, opening bell tomorrow morning is going to be a bloodbath of a selloff of AAPL. Holy cow. It might drag the whole NASDAQ down.

Very sad to hear. He was a very smart man that truly changed the course of history. He pioneered many things that make our lives possible today. He will be missed by many, but his image will linger well into the future.

He was in the "final" stages over a year ago, over two years, ago. It is a true tribute to the man. He always found a way!

Today's introduction of the 4S was generally acknowledged as "disappointing" by industry gurus. Apple may well take a hit, but they would be happy to use his passing as the 'reason".

What a loss, cancer knows no boundaries rich, poor, visionary or kid next door. I also hate it, Dee is a breast cancer survivor, the worst time of our lives. RIP Mr. Jobs

They mocked the iphone4 too... Remember antenna gate?
Yet it became best selling smartphone ever! Now the 4s will eclipse its success have owned apple since it was $5 not worried about short sellers or nay sayers will watch apple's karma train roll on.

Although the 4S was not the 5 that many had hoped, and his passing will affect the stock, I predict it will rebound pretty quickly. Pre sales for the 4S will start on friday and the stock will rebound once the sales go well.

The 4S will change the game again. The CMOS lens that they put into it will make the iPhone rival (or beat) many PnS cameras on the market.

Heck.. Apple announced a new app to create and mail greeting cards and card company stocks felt it!

I'm buying ALL the Apple I can afford, tomorrow. I suspect there will be a "buying spree", one share at the time.......WITH CERTIFICATES ISSUED with tomorrow's date.

The paid bloggers will continue to BASH a product and operating system that they have not seen, nor has made it to the market yet, but I'll bet that Apple will jump 400 tomorrow, not because it is undervalued (it is) but because love Jobs, or hate him, America and AMERICANS are better off because of his vision for Apple.

I'll be buying MORE than 1 share, but I WILL GET a certificate for 1 share. It's the least I can do!

We shall see.

Steve Jobs left Apple once before---things did not go well.

But, there is a rule against talking about religion on the IAP and Mac followers are far more fervent than most organized religions.

Good luck Andy, I truly hope you make a fortune!!

Sorry to hear that. He was a pioneer in his field, and his keen intelligence will be missed. May he rest in peace.

I will also have "buy" ordrer in for Amazon, as well. Kindle "touch" and Ipad 3 are destined for a duel.

I'm not sure who will win, but like the neighborhood bookie, I'm covered, either way.

I tried to buy Apple at 318 and couldn't get it done. My thinking is that there are more greatful Americans than "nay sayers". Cook, in essence, has been the controlling force of Apple for 3 years.

I don't need a "talking head", but Jobs WAS fun to watch. Also, I suspect (almost know) that IPhone 5 and I Pad3 are "pocket Aces" for when apple REALLY needs them.

He was a great man and achieved great things for America. I am not an Apple but it has no bearing on my respect for what he accomplished. Like I told my wife 'all the money in the world can't stop cancer'. I have been surrounded by the C for many years and it breaks my heart to see it take a life but many time I am lifted by the peoples strength fighting that fight.

I've been in the IT industry for 17 years now and whether you like apple products or not, Steve Jobs was one of the pioneers in the industry and much of what we take for granted in personal computing and personal entertainment in general wouldn't be the same without his innovations. One of the most brilliant minds and his passing will leave a large hole in silicon valley.

I'm not an apple lover, but I do concede that they are best of breed for many things.

The thing that people should remember is that his life was cut short by a horrible disease, will never know what he could have done in the future. He will be missed.

Rest in peace Steve. You've left a legacy that will continue to benefit all computer users ( Apple and otherwise) for many years to come!

John

He was a great man and will be missed.
I lost my best friend to cancer yesterday and another friend is dealing with it.
I was lucky. I'm a survivor of going on 14 years.

Curtis, I hate cancer, too. Steve Job's type of cancer is the same one that took my dad. Fortunately, Steve endured much longer than my dad did. When Dad was diagnosed, they gave him 6 months; he lasted 10. The really tragic part is how this cancer works. The patient literally starves to death. I don't mean to be so graphic, but knowing what I do about it makes me respect Steve Jobs even more. Even as he declined, he still maintained his dynamics.

After 30 plus years of being a hard core, laughing at the stupid Apple, PC user, I took the plunge in April and bought my first Mac. Now I kick myself for being so hard headed and stupid for not changing sooner. In spite of my attitude toward Apple equipment and operating system, my admiration for Steve Jobs started about 25 years ago.

All that's been said on this forum about Steve is right on and quite appropriate regarding Steve Jobs. The one thing that has not been said, and the reason he is, was, and always will be one of my hero's is the leadership qualities he exhibited to lead Apple twice and Pixar. His quiet demeanor, his excellent speaking skills and his laid back take charge style made him one of the most beloved and effective leaders of the 20th and 21st Centuries.

Goodby Steve and I sincerely I get a chance to sit at your feet in another life.

I'm not a Mac/Apple person, but he and his company did build an awesome product and has changed the way we as a people use technology.... I did have the good fortune of meeting Steve Jobs and Wozniak way back when they were just starting out and still working in the garage... they were getting ready to start shipping and we (the shipping company I worked for) were looking to pick them up as shipping clients... don't remember how it all worked out... I left the company a few months later and a couple of years later the company closed down.

May he rest in peace.

I have never owned any Mac or Apple product, BUT I regard Steve Jobs as one of the most dynamic people of our time, I listened to a College commencement address this afternoon which Mr. Jobs made about the time he was told to get his affairs in order, 6 years ago, when his Dr. had given him less than a year.
His constant forward thinking and drive made him a great man, and we need more visionaries like Steve Jobs to bring our nation back into the technical power we were 10 or 15 years ago. He told these students that they needed to charge forward that death was a certainty, it can't be avoided, but push every thing you can in to the short span of time we have on earth. You are already naked and have nothing to loose. so make the most out of every day.
I truly respect Mr. Jobs, he developed his business the right way (after getting fired) by creating products that did what was expected of them, and were innovative beyond our farthest expectations.

He had a hand in my first and latest computing device. I had an Apple IIe with no hard drive and just a simple floppy disk. I remember how cool it was to do reports on it and being able to edit them BEFORE printing them out on a dot matrix printer! That was a pretty big deal at the time.

Compare that to my Ipad 2 that tracks satellites in real time and when I hold it up to the sky it knows where I am and what angle it's held at and exactly where those satellites are, all through GPS tracking and gyros. I can check my email when away from home and I can order things (such as titanium rings!) right off the Internet. I make my living from the Internet! All on a high resolution color screen, good sound, and a slickly machined and robust unit with a leather cover that turns it off automatically when its flap is lowered over it. It's just crazy to be able to go from there to here in a single lifetime. Well done Steve.

Hmmmm... I wish I had more free cash laying around last tuesday during the announcement.. My prediction above could have gotten me a new toy for the shop!
