I have one for my ShopSmith. I bought it a couple of years ago just about when I was starting to turn bowls. If you want to learn more about it, visit The Wooden Post (http://woodenpost.com/).

When I purchased mine I was all hyped up about using the RingMaster to make bowls. Then, I discovered the Ellsworth Signature Bowl Gouge. The rest is history.

PS My RingMaster is still sitting in the box. [:)]

I have one, I have used it a few times, but never got around to assembling the rings into a bowl.

If you get it, wear a face mask!!! One ring got my square between the eyes, broke my glasses' frames and HURT!!! I survived, thanks for asking.

Did the ring get bent??????[:D]

An acquaintance (friend of a friend) has one and makes tons of bowls with it from scrap wood. He sells many of his bowls at about $10.00 each. He claims this is profitable. It sure is faster than conventional turning. However, IMHO, the bowls, while attractive, do not represent the craftsmanship required of regular turning nor is there the variety.

Cav,

The ring survived it's first flight without injury. However, when I grabbed it, something seemed to make it shatter. I felt better.

I don't exactly agree with Frank about the variety issue. You can make some pretty cool looking bowls with the RingMaster. Check out this section of the Wooden Post website: http://woodenpost.com/woodturners_project_image_gallery.htm
Regarding craftsmanship ...... well, turning a bowl on a lathe and cutting rings that you glue together are two different experiences. I think Frank and I would agree on this point. To me, it's all about the Gestalt of making a bowl. Turning a bowl on a lathe is kind of like finding the Mother Ship. It's a highly personal experience.
By the way, talking with Gary(the owner of The Wooden Post) on the phone is always a highly educational experience. He's a great guy, always extremely helpful, and a pro when it comes to the RingMaster.

Hey John ..... nope, I'm not ready to sell mine just yet. But, the thought has crossed my mind. Meanwhile, keep an eye out in ebay. They often get listed ..... but, don't expect to get one cheap. Even used one go for big moola. [:)]

Dave, I have a standalone Ringmaster, they work great either as the instructions say or if you away from the instructions.

The stand alone unit has a shield, yes many times I have had pieces fly off when having my cut too close to the edge but that shield protected me WITHOUT PROBLEMS.

I find it hard to believe someone would use a device like this without a shield even if it was on a Shopsmith. (I own one too)

Wm "Cav" ... where are you in the SV?
