I am trying to find additional tool rests for my Rikon mini. The 5/8" post on this lathe needs to be a bit taller than other mini's because of the 12" swing. Has anyone found a source for a longer 5/8" post?

I am in the market for a modular system, like the Sorby, but their 5/8" post is only 3.5" long. The overall height of the Rikon rest is 4.75".

Thanks,

Dale

I purchased a 3 piece set on Ebay from a seller named "disoorder". You might contact him about the ones that he sells. I hope that this helps.

You could pick up some metal stock at your local home store or hardware and take it to a welding shop or muffler shop and have it welded up for just a few dollars.

Mike,

Are you using that set of rests with the Rikon mini? I was concerned that the 5/8" shaft would be too short. I have ordered other things form "disoorder" and his prices and delivery are good.

disoorder is a PSI reseller - I'm sure the toolrest set you bought is the same one as in the PSI catalog. I would guess they would be too short for the Rikon. Maybe find a good machinist in your area and have him make you one out of stainless round stock?

I had purchased the modular rest system from Woodcraft for my Jet mini. I found them a bit too high for my taste and took them back. You may want to try those. The post, when released, would extend about 3/8" or so below the banjo.
