Still think Red Oak is a 'forgotten favorite', it might not have the 'catchy name' like some of the burls out there, but it is a special wood with some really great qualities.
Now when the neighbor pulls out his pen, he can remember that day when the tree fell through his house

Yep - I gave it to him today and he was really excited - put it in a gift box and he has been showing it to everybody!
Elegant is the word I use also.

I've got about 500 bf left from 1,000 bf of red oak in my shop. I lucked up on it 7-8 years ago. Haven't turned a single pen from it. That'll probably change after seeing your pen. It's gorgeous.
