This Junior Statesman was made for a friend from the Red Oak tree that crashed through his house leaving a 10x14 foot hole in the roof. Finished with 15 coats (6 thin, 6 medium, 3 thick CA sanded back and MM to 12000 and Ren wax. C&C appreciated.

Crosscut too! Well done!!

Still think Red Oak is a 'forgotten favorite', it might not have the 'catchy name' like some of the burls out there, but it is a special wood with some really great qualities.

Now when the neighbor pulls out his pen, he can remember that day when the tree fell through his house:eek:

Scott (gasoline in the cut....sort of:biggrin:) B

I've got about 500 bf left from 1,000 bf of red oak in my shop. I lucked up on it 7-8 years ago. Haven't turned a single pen from it. That'll probably change after seeing your pen. It's gorgeous.

Well crap...my roof didn't crash in so I guess it's not mine:rolleyes: Simple and clean, and the finish rocks! Can't get better than that bud!
