As most of you know, I am active duty Navy (don't hold that against me....:biggrin:). Everyone tells me that you will know when it is your time. Well, it is my time and I am ready to retire from the Navy and figure out what I want to do next in life. I will have completed 28 years 2 months and 15 days when it is all said and done.

My Military retirement ceremony will take place on 28 August 2013 at Naval Station Norfolk. If there is anyone that is in the area that wants to attend, send me a PM. I will send you a link for the RSVP. I would like to see you there.

Now I just have to figure out how to get through each day without someone telling me what to do when...... All you military folk know what I mean..... :wink:

Congrats Fred,

I just retired from the Air Force myself this month. I am still adapting to the change, but it was time for me to move on. Best wishes on your transition.

Egad, to think when I was in the navy E-6 and below had no "Service Dress White" We had Undress White with neckerchief. Congrats on a long service to your country and may you have a long and blessed retirement.
 
Good for you Fred. I got a kick out of that "Uniform of the day" thing. My wife was watching some fashion thingy while I was surfing the net. There was a very flamboyant gentlemen talking about how some woman needed to plan her wardrobe. He told her to think of it as the "uniform of the day".

A friend just retired and said he was given this advice

"Ask yourself what you want to do when you grow up, then go do it. Now you can."

Sounded like good advice as long as you have a pension/retirement income to help.

Congratulations on your retirement. I retired from the Navy in Aug of 84 with 23 yrs. Next year will be 30 yrs retired. Hard to believe. Stay busy and enjoy. Fair winds and following seas shipmate. Thank you for your service.

He won't tell ya'll but I will spoil it, August 28th is also his birthday and date of commission, so it's already a very special day for the family.

Wait you said something about "someone telling what to do when" HA. If I ever said that I would have to look and make sure Kelly was not standing there.....

Plus there are plenty of molds not made yet.....

Congrats Fred, and thank you for your service. (USN 22yrs). I just retired from my second career (teaching NJROTC). That may be an avenue for you if you don't already have something lined up.
 
Good for you Fred. Hate to say it, but you're not gonna have that fine US issued clothing to wear all the time (well you could play dress up if you want)

Congrats, Fred. I retired from Surface Warfare Development Group at Little Creek after 26 total years and retired from my second career (information security) in 2011.

Hope you find some worthwhile endeavor to fill your time.

Congratulations for your Service, may you have a good retirement!
I only made it for 20, retired in '72. I did not like what Zumwalt was doing to the Navy I loved, so I retired.

I have a feeling that I will still have someone telling me what I have to do daily.....but that person has been telling me that for the last 27 years....:eek: I don't think she will stop just because I retired from the military......:biggrin:

The Uniform of the day is a normal term for a military person. It is just jargon for the normal uniform that we wear daily that is not our dress uniform.

I definitely want to do something that I enjoy. Some kind of low stress job would be great!!! Don't need a ton to supplement the retirement.....

Don't have a career lined up as of yet but I will find something. I am taking 95 days of leave and temporary duty after my retirement before I actually get discharged from the service.

The sequestration has made it much more difficult to find a job around this area. If sequestration had not taken affect, I would have walked out of my current job from the military and walk back in as a civilian doing the same thing. They were willing to create a job for me until the Gov't hiring freeze occurred earlier this year.....

As Tina said, the date of Aug 28 has a lot of meaning to me. My birth date, my commission date and now my retirement date..... That's why I am saved so much leave to use as terminal leave so I could actually hit that date.......

That is kind of where I am right now. With all the changes that have occurred and now the sequestration, I think the best time to make a change for me is now. I remember what it was like when I enlisted back in 1985. It is quite different now then is was then!

Here's a dumb question.....

....what on earth is this ''ten thirty o'clock' business????:eek: I thought all you military folk were strictly adhering to the 'Hundred hours' format??:biggrin:

I was just following the standard layout....that is how they talk at them fancy invitation places.... It is something with the US. The weird part is that the retirement doesn't start on the hour so that thirty business throws things off a little.:biggrin:

Besides, if I talked military time some of my civilian friends may not understand....:biggrin:
 
I had 22/10/5 when I hung up my whites for the last time in 2005. O-4 is a lot of fun...kind of get to hide, but still have a great time! I found my wife still has no trouble giving orders and expecting a "Yes dear" every time! Well done Commander!!
