Hi all:

I'm new to stabilizing and having some fun with it. After stabilizing some spalted maple burl, I got my hands on some buckeye burl and thought I'd try stabilizing with dyes. Yesterday I finished my first two pens with one from each stabilizing process and thought I would share. The spalted maple burl is on a Sierra Button Click and the double-dyed buckeye burl is on a Virage. I used Ocean Blue and Yellow from TurnTex for the dyed blank, and obviously got quite a bit of green, but overall I like it. Hope you do, too.

They look fantastic, and congrats on finding another aspect of this hobby to enjoy. As always, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and while there are many who enjoy the dyed wood look, I prefer my wood to look like...well, wood =-) Personal preference aside those really do look great!

I like them, Russ, and especially the Buckeye.
It has a lovely colour with good depth to it.
Good job, especially as these are your first efforts.
