I use CA glue to glue the tubes in to my pen blanks. Lately, when I get a whiff of the glue, my eyes and nose burn something fierce! I bought a 3M respirator, but that doesn't help my eyes. Today, after gluing up about 6 blanks, my eyes were tearing so bad I had to stop.

I also have an Airshield Pro, but that doesn't stop the fumes, just dust.

Would the Triton work better? Is there anything else someone can think of?

Or do I need something like a gas mask?

SCBA is the only thing I can say will work for sure (self contained Breathing apparatus) Might try Monty he has oderless CA I think that may help you.

Yes you do get dust protection from chemical filters. particle filtration is incorporated in all respirator filters. as for CA fumes you can go as simple as a fan blowing the fumes away to a full face filter. it is not good to be breathing the fumes at any rate but they will disipate quickly so they are not something that will build up in an enclosed space. keeping them from getting in your face is good enough. now the dust and such is another matter.

I have the Air Shield Pro and I use my dust collector when working with CA. Just get the dust collector intake near the work area. That should get the fumes away from you.

Even orderless CA has a fume component that will make my eyes water and irritate my sinus.

I have the Triton full face respirator and if I am right over the blank when I apply CA, I still get the fumes in my eyes, not quite as bad, but I still get them. I actually got the Triton to prevent very fine wood dust as this was givng me terrible headaches and sinus irritation. The Triton has done a terrific job of eliminating that problem and reducing the CA fumes to the point that it is not too bad.

After a half year of using CA I got hit with a reaction that would affect me for a couple days. From what I've read on this site, and others, once you start having a reaction to CA you will always have a reaction to CA. Oh well.:frown:

I went to an industrial supplies store, Acklands Grainger in my area, and purchased a North half-mask respirator with filters rated for organics; I haven't had any problems since. That is I haven't had any problems since I learned not to take the respirator off while I'm still standing in the shop! I do any CA work at the end of my shop time, and wear the mask until I'm out the door. Basically, the respirator goes on before the CA comes out.

I also usually wear latex gloves, because I had a reaction once that I think was just from skin contact. At this point the fumes haven't been a problem for my eyes, but I also use a fan blowing across the lathe and away from me. I haven't installed my whole shop dust collection system yet, but will absolutely have a good pick-up by the lathe when I do.

I just turn on the shop vac and put the hose right behind the glue up station. Don't get the hose too close, the first time I did this I sucked the blank right into the vac. Now,the "wet floor" brush attachment keeps that from happening

I actually ended up ordering a gas mask from Ebay:eek::eek:!

I will let you all know how this works out.
