I found and interesting piece of Live Oak when I was smoking some chicken a few months back. I just couldn't throw it in the fire box. So I took it into the shop and made this little box as a birthday present of one of the girls next door. I'm not as happy with the lid as I'd like, but here eyes lit up like diamonds toady when I gave it to her, so I'm pleased enough. I've seen alot of curly Live Oak, but I haven't seen much of the web-like structure that this piece shows.

Oh, I took a wire wheel in an electric drill to the bottom below the burned line and then reversed the lathe and did it again. This Oak is so hard, it barely shows.

Fantastic bowl! Has some beautiful grains and the finish really makes them pop. Like the shape of the box and the lid. Great turning piece!
