removing sierra clips

Hello everyone, I have a customer who would like to have his sierra twist pens without the clips, but they look like they are held in with a pressed brass plug. Does anyone know how to remove this without damage?

Insert the proper size Harbor Freight Transfer Punch into the bottom of the finial assembly and tap the top out with a mallet.

you'll be surprised at how hard you might have to hit it with the mallet. wrap the barrell with rubberbands to get a better grip.
