removing CA

i'm in a bit of a dilemma. i finished a couple shaving brushes a week or so ago and the finish looked acceptable when done, so i epoxied in the knots to finish off the brush. next morning, there were some ghost spots on the handles... the knots aren't going to be any treat to get out and i don't want to ruin them.

so, any suggestions to remove the ca finish without remounting them on the lathe? acetone wipe or something? i'll be re-finishing them with deft spray lacquer. is it possible to just spray the lacquer over the ca?

Acetone will do the trick, but the wipe method will take you hours, if not days to get all the CA off. If possible, soak the items in acetone for a few hours, remove, wipe off and resoak. Repeat this a few times and you should be ready for lacquer. The acetone should flash off to the point where you can apply the lacquer after being left out for a few hours.

Tou can also sand them out which is a lot of work, or use a sharp exacto blade to scrape the spots off. Then applie medium or thick CA to the cleaned out spots and let cure for a day. Then sand by hand those spots slowly and carefully, then work your way up through the Micro Mesh grits to get your nice shiney finish again. The wife shipped a key chain I made for her in 2 spots, I didn't have to cut or sand in the begining, but after applying the medium CA and letting set over night, I sanded and polished it up, and you can't tell now that it had ever happened.

thanks for the replies. billy, i tried the soaking method and it worked great. i just had trouble finding something to soak in that minimized my loss of acetone. the spray lacquer went on after the acetone evaporated with no problems.
