Refinishing a plastic commode seat lid

I've had this heated commode seat for some years now and the top has gotten scratched and discolored somewhat over the years, and recently I've been wondering if I can do anything to improve it's looks. The typical refinishing steps I've used on almost anything in the past includes sanding, but I'm not sure that's what's called for here. It's got some deeper scratches here and there, but nothing that catches your attention. The ones in the picture are the deepest. It mostly just has light scratching all over from whatever's been set on it before. I'd like to avoid painting if at all possible, but I suppose it's not entirely out of the question.

Anybody done something like this before?

I will have to say I have been a member here since 2005 and this has to be a first. I see you also posted this on a numerous sites and hope you get better answers. But what comes to mind is why not just replace and the first suggestion. Second is why not use a cover for the top? Third is try using any of the car wax plastic scratch removers. Use in an unseen place to try. Fourth is have no more sorry. Using a buffing wheel or micromesh seems too far out there but throw everything you do with acrylic pens at it. Good luck.

Easier to replace it, IMO. I question if paint would stick very long in a humid environment.

RE Painting: I knew a fireman several years ago who related the story of a painted toilet seat. Like this one, it was scratched and the wife of the family wanted to replace it. The husband, being a woodworker, knew he could fix it with paint, putty, or molding, so he painted it. It looked grand. Later, his wife came to use the facilities. She sat down, and her body heat caused the paint that felt dry to the touch to soften. It softened enough that she stuck to it and couldn't get up. That's where my fireman buddy came in. He was part of the crew that took wife and toilet seat to the ER to be separated. Paint? Not I ... just sayin

Heated toilet set cover? Really? I could understand a heated seat, but not a seat cover.

I would replace both the seat and cover. Trying to refinish sounds like too much work.

My bathroom is heated. No need for a heated seat. I'd replace it rather than try to fix it.

Obviously it needs a CA finish.
