REFILL QUESTION

Didn't know where to post this so thought here was OK.

My Q - LOML (my VERY BEST customer) has an older PSI pen (I think it is the CEO) that uses a Cross refill. She bought some Cross refills (Cross, not a knockoff) and it appears that the threads on the top of the refill are different. Different enough that the new refills cannot be used. Anybody experience this or have knowlege of a change by Cross?

I have always used Cross refills for my pens. In fact, I automatically change out the refills that come with the kits to the corresponding name brand because I've found the refills that come with the kits run out quickly and they tend to have issues writing on tablet paper.

I have not had any issues with the threads. Think about it for a minute. Cross makes and sells millions of pens. Why would they change the thread on their refills? Either the threads are messed up on the twist mechanism or you didn't get authentic Cross refills.

one other thing. I always turn the refills reverse direction until I feel the thread drop into place then I turn the refills in the direction to screw out into place. The plastic thread is very easy to cross thread of your not careful

I've had this same issue. What I did is gently "persuaded" the refill to go in and would give a little resistance but would finally screw in and after that would unscrew and screw back in normally. I think maybe the plastic part is slightly fatter on some refills or something in the threads.

Just use a little more force.

I have received "invitations to purchase" refills from China that are branded "Cross".

I doubt these are genuine Cross, based on pricing. So, I would caution you to be careful when buying any refills---there are a lot of "imitations" being offered. The profit margins would be huge if these were sold at retail. The temptation may be too great for some vendors.

Thanks, gang. Figured it out. The "new" refill was/is just a wee bit larger in diam at the tip and the tolerance in the pen was real fine so it wouldn't allow the refill to go all the way. It felt like it was a different thread but after I took some 800 to the refill tip it worked ok.

If I recall correctly, the last time I was in Staples I was looking at refills and I seem to remember the carded Cross refills were marked as made in UK.
