Is there a reference/resource of sorts that provides instructions on how to replace the ink refills for individual pens? Often customers/recipients of pens are unfamiliar with how to replace the refills of their pens and perhaps a handy card with "care and refill" instructions would be a nice touch along with the pens.

Funny you should mention that. I had a repeat customer order his first fountain pen from me last week. I sent the pen, a piston converter and several disposable ink cartridges. Long story short he didn't know how to put the ink in it. I spent significant time on the phone with him trying to walk him through it but he just wasn't getting it. He shipped the pen back to me, I installed a disposable ink cartridge and will be shipping it back out today along with a set of instructions that are now posted on my website, here.

I created a PDF file for the Sierra pens showing now to disassemble for ink-fill replacement. I normally include a business card with instructions as part of the pen-type card.
A copy is in the Wiki.

I normally include 3 cards with my writing instruments. My person card; card with care, ink replacement & care guide; and a material card.

Very cool.

Anyone want to share samples of what they give with pens?

Thanks for the replies gentlemen. Sounds like this could be a "project in the making" for someone. It would certainly be a great addition to the site library.

I send a print out of instructions with every pen I send out, and if its a high end pen like $80+, I take pictures of that pen and replace the images in the intructions so they have the pictures of their pen and it makes it easier and more unique and customers are always happy..

Mike: That is great. I have been afraid to sell fountainpens because I felt that most people don't understand what the usage entails. Would you object to our modifying this instruction sheet for our own usage. I think I still own all the f/ps I've made except for one bought as a gift to a pen affectionado who knew how to use them.

That depends on what modifications you want to make. Why don't you shoot me a PM with what you have in mind.
