I'm in the process of overhauling my deck from the bottom up. I've replaced three of the four lower posts, the fourth is waitng for the concrete to cure on the last pier. The old posts are about 7 to 8 feet long, a lot of wood even cutting the damaged wood off. I cut a couple of feet off one old beam and put it through the bandsaw to get a 2 inch thick slab which I then took to the table saw and cut 45 degree crosscut blanks. It turned easy, sucked up the thin CA like a paper towel and exhibited some nice chatoyance after finishing and polishing.
