It's a while since I have posted something on IAP.
Now, I added a new fountain Pen Model to the collection, a "Kawaakari" pen with flat top and end. The urushi is an incredible sparkling "Raden Kinhari Nuri" Gold Needle Lacquer with grains of Abalone. The lacquer is around 1 mm thick, which allows the gold needles and abalone a maximum of reflections. It took around 40 days to reach the necessary tickness of Urushi

All the best,

Martin

Beautiful pens!
Urushi...thought that sounded familiar.
"Allergies: Urushi contains urushiol, the same oil that causes allergic reactions in poison ivy and poison oak. Proper precautions, such as wearing gloves and working in a well-ventilated area, are essential to prevent allergic reactions."

Again that BS about Urushiol.
When Urushi is dried/cured there is no alergic substance left.
The most common uses of urushi in Japan are things to do with eating and drinking, soup bowls, chopsticks and so on. And why is this so? because of its strong antibacterial properties
