I have made a couple of pens with quilted maple and CA finish, but was wondering what I could do to further enhance the curl prior to applying the CA finish.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Warren

I would try BLO or walnut oil, both will slightly yellow the wood but BLO more so. I just got some pens plus today and that really makes the grain pop. I wonder if you could do a CA finish over pens plus, or if you'd want to...

Use a coat of amber dye, then resand. The dye will stay in the wavy figure since it will really soak in, but it will be sanded off the hard grain. You might also try using an alcohol based dye, then wash it back with just straight alcohol. It will wash the dye off the hard grain, but it will still be soaked into the wild grain. This compact was dyed and washed back with alcohol.
