I had today off after spending all of last week doing 6 hour travel per day for work. I had this little burl cap, with Spotted gum, 6/94 written on it. Mmm it's sort of round, I'll throw it on the lathe.
About 1 1/2 hours from start to finish and spotty burl is a dirty, dusty timber to turn, especially when it's been drying for over 20 years. There is a lot of sap wood, the dirty grey areas and some nice reddish areas poking thru. Finished to #600 and 1 coat of Danish Oil, burnished in. I might spray it in a month's time to add a bit more shine.
