Sharp tools.

It is very porous (deep grained), turns well, but if you "catch" in the grain you will destroy the blank.

FOR ME, the sharp skew is the answer---YMMV

VERY sharp skew, light cuts, and I coat the blank with thin CA about halfway thru turning. It turns the blank very hard and is much easier to cut.

LOTS of thin CA! I just did some black palm and while it looks nice when it's finished, getting there is a real pain in the butt!

PITB! It is in the grass family so it is difficult as compared to wood.

Thanks to all of you. I just finished it and it turned out alright. Still a PITB, but it does look different, neat or whatever. To answer how I did it. Sharp skew and lots of thin CA.
