I have been wanting to try chair making. I was wondering if there were any good books out there that discuss the particulars of rocking chair design and building?
This is the Kindle version, I didn't go this route but it's cheap and it will give you an idea of what's involved.
If you decide to make one I recommend getting the DVD and printing out the .pdf version of the book. You'll need the actual paper book for shop reference and the DVD is a big help when you can't figure something out from the book.
There is ALOT of work involed in making this style of chair so be prepared for a long journey.:biggrin::biggrin:
Thanks Rick. I was looking at Hal Taylor's website and honestly wondered if he was just a salesman. Glad to know his stuff is the real deal because it looked like what I wanted.
I am looking for a long journey. Don't know why just need something.
Look for books or articles by Sam Maloff the king of chair making. Check back issues of Fine Wood Working. Maloff's chairs sell for 10s of thousands of dollers each. Jim S
Hal Taylor's web site is rocking chair university. I bought the plans and dream of building one of his rocking chairs, but just the cost of the wood is out the question right now.
