I've watched a bunch of videos. Almost all of them say to use 4 blanks of equal dimensions. But they don't say WHY to use equal dimensions. There must be a logical reason but what is it? Asking for a friend!

Makes sense. Thanks Pete, I thought it had to do with glue up. Now I don't have to try it.If they are not equal when you flip them around the pattern won't match.
????? You try it of your friend?Makes sense. Thanks Pete, I thought it had to do with glue up. Now I don't have to try it.![]()
Me try it. Friend asked the question. It didn't matter much to me, but I didn't have the answer. But I do now!????? You try it of your friend?
A great article on inside outside vase and how to cut the wood the same dimension by Allen Quandee. I have made a bunch of these. Good Sellers.I've watched a bunch of videos. You are welcome! Thanks for this Rich!
I've made them with two contrasting woods, on the diagonal.
A hint. When you cut the blanks, cut them an inch or so too long. When you glue them together, put the glue only on the top half inch, and use plenty of glue. Then after the first turn you can cut off the glued ends rather than trying to break them apart.
