Question about blown lathe capacitor

I have a Jet 1014 mini lathe and as I was turning there was a "pop" and smoke coming from the motor. I took the cover off to discover the capacitor had blown.

Is this likely just a problem with the capacitor, or is there something else I should be looking for that caused the capacitor to fail? I haven't noticed anything else out of the ordinary, maybe a little more heat on the motor and headstock when I turn, but I'm not sure how hot they are expected to get as I am turning.

I had a capacitor blow on my belt and disc sander. I just replaced it with a new one and it's been fine ever since. This was about 18months ago.

Replace the capacitor and you should be fine. The capacitor is primarily used to the start the motor and they do ultimately fail.

The 1014 ceased production about 2010. I purchased one of the last ones on clearance. Not much chance of Jet replacing parts without money exchanging hands.
