A week or so ago there was a thread about duck calls. It just happened that a day or so before the thread I had placed my first order for a game call kit from Hut. This turned out to be a nice break from pens.

The darker one is an English walnut kit from Hut, and the lighter one is some choke cherry that my S-I-L gave me with an 'alligator wood' stopper. I want to make a Canada goose call out of it for my S-I-L.

Fun and fairly easy to turn.

Sorry Tony, I have to ask, "What makes the shape good or bad??"

I am making a few (have not shown them yet) and have NO IDEA what they should look like or why.

Thanks for any comments (from anyone who knows)

Ed, The thickness of barrel has a great deal to do with the quality of the sound of the call. Second part of the sound comes from the density of the wood. With plastic there is more of a standard density of the plastic yet the thickness again changes the tone.
