The difference between fly tying quality and craft quality feathers is night and day! Most craft stuff isn't even the species it claims to be! Its dyed turkey feathers and I have yet to find a craft feather that is color fast in water let alone acrylic!

Buy the ones on strips, you can cut off the feathers one at a time as needed.
