My kids thought I was kidding. My wife knew I was serious. It was a very round pumpkin! I hope pumpkin pulp isn't corrosive to my lathe bed!

Happy Halloween Everyone!

It was mounted between centers. Just the right amount of pressure to keep it on the lathe. I wore my face shield in case it flew off. I used a parting tool to cut grooves. Then I took it off the lathe and sliced the top off through the first groove and scooped it out. I numbered the layers and then cut each layer free. Then it was just some toothpick work to put it back together. It's drying out and twisting into funky shapes. It may be more interesting in a couple days then it is now. fun!

Pumpkin boards next?

If you had parted them at the right angle you could have put them back together to make a flat board, "a reverse Ring Master".:wink::rolleyes:

I think your kids will look back many years from now and say,

Kids the pumpkin in that picture started the decline of the pen turner and started the new craze in restaurant entertainment era for your Grandpa. I remember the year we lost him and half of the people in the great pumpkin come apart where he tried to turn the worlds largest pumkin on a bet by the restaurant owner.
