I've been busy in the shop, but haven't posted any for a bit. Here's the latest. I thought this came out pretty cool. This is why I pick the "ugly" blanks up, to see what's in there. It's a black enamel PSI classic rollerball in Chechen with spalted sapwood. The only thing I'm on the fence about is the darker "fill" on the one side. Apparently, the beetle sawdust that filled the hole was from the darker wood? Had I known before I CA'd it, I might have cleaned it out first. Anyway, the spalted sapwood looks good with the hardware in my opinion.

The wood has a lot of character and I really like the look. Goes really well with the components. Chechen is one of my favorites,

Ooo... that's pretty. I really like the black & gold hardware, too. After a couple bad experiences with black enamel slimlines scratching & chipping, though, I've pretty much steered clear of the finish - is it any more durable on the nicer kits?

Thanks everyone.

@Bats , I don't think the enamel will be as durable as any platings would be. The last one of these I made had a tiny chip at the bottom of the cap. Hardly noticeable for some people, but that stuff sticks out in pictures like a sore thumb.

@KenB259, it's also one of my favorites. I love the way the subtle reddish hues show up.
