I finally decided to try my PSI buffing wheel a short time back. I bought it last year, when I had JUST began turning, and never could get a good finish with it, so I set it aside.

I have learned a lot over the past year; one of the things I have learned is that when you cannot get something to work properly, check your technique, and then check the mechanics of the tool...

Turns out - and I have no idea how I missed this before - the buffing wheel is WAY out of true. In fact, it is downright ridiculously crooked. When I put it in the lathe - and my spindle is clean - the stupid thing has about three-quarters of an inch of 'crook' in it from left to right!

Does anyone know where I can get a heavy-duty rod with a morse taper so that I can remount these wheels, or is the whole thing unsalvagable?

For my home made one, I use a MT-2 1/2-inch collet clamped around a piece of 1/2-inch all-thread. It seems to be running pretty true. I bought a set of collets off eBay. Otherwise, Little Machine Shop has them.

Hope this helps.
