I have turned one or two PR pens fusing the square molds and that works o.k/
I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for round molds that would require less shaping. Also should the cut produce castings that are like sand?

Ed and others are using round ice cube trays for casting, that seems to work for them. They are round and they have less waist. I think they got them at Wal Mart. I still cast in a flat mold. The shavings should peel off like a ribbon. If your shavings are like sand, maybe to much hardener or your chisels could also be the cause.

I think I also read somewhere that some use the plastic water pipe (CPVC) I know the 3/4 pipe should be pretty close to the ID you need for round molds.

If you're getting 'sand' you could be using the wrong tool or too much pressure - PR likes very light cuts and a scraper with a burr. Mileage (and opinion) may vary :)

edit: if your PR still smells, leaving the shavings on your lathe bed (or any steel/iron) could cause it to rust!
