ppp finish help

Been turning for a long time and just began with pens. Been looking for a great finish and tried Hut liquid friction polish. Works ok, but just handling the pen to put it together dulls the finish. So---now I'm trying PPP (the bars). I follow the steps with the satin-gloss bar and then the high gloss bar and still, the finish gets dull just by handling the pen when I assemble.
Any hints here or any other finishes that would work?
Obviously, everyone likes the speed of the friction polishes.

On the first page alone of this forum there are threads on 6 different finishes. I'd suggest starting there and asking more specific questions after that.

The friction polish should last longer than that. Let it cool to room temperature before handling.

Same thing for the wax. It won't last long, but it should last longer than that.

Personally, I'm not a fan of friction polish.

CA is a finish that requires a little bit of learning, but for me it was fun to learn, and according to a poll here is the favorite among members here.

CA won't dull quickly. In regards to PPP...I put PPP on a pen more for the way it makes the pen feel than the protection that it offers.

If you search aroung this forum, you'll find tons of info on CA. I learned how to do it from this site exclusively. Worth learning, my opinion.

There is a wealth of information on these pages. According to my reading here, I would say there are 3 main finishes. Lacquer, CA and Enduro. You can do a search for those and you'll have enough reading for a week. Others might include the plexi-glass finish in the top. There's some good articles in the Library also. Check out Russ Fairfields site. There is a lot of good information there too. I highly recommend Russ's video(s) and I like Bill Baumbecks (BB) video. (of Arizona Silhouette)

Stick a wick in the PPP bars and use them for candles.
Allow the friction polish overnight before handling.
Take Lou's advice.
Learn to do a CA finish.[]

Thanks for all the input. I'm new to the site and it looks ot have all the info I'll ever need for penturning. Going to try my hand at custom centerbands this afternoon. Thanks all.
