Hi, i was just wondering if anyone would know where i can get new points for my live center on my lathe. I have a live center that is hollow and you insert a point that is removable, it is starting to show some wear and i would like to replace it. I did several searches and it led me to some very very expensive tooling. I have a Fisch Lathe, Almost like the Jet. Thanks.

Most of the turning catalogs have centers with a set of tips for slightly less than 100. I don't know of any in that price range where you can get replacement tips. And you're right, the centers that allow for replacing tips can be outrageously expensive.

likewise i have a jet live center with a removeable tip and would like to replace just the point. no luck in finding one so far. i figure i will have to save it until i get one that the bearing fails. like i really need to save more stuff. i'll never find it if/when that happens. lol

Carl, I would take it to a machine shop with an old pen to swap
The other thing to remember is if the point is worn, then maybe the bearings aren't too far behind. Christmas is coming so stick one on your list:wink:

I have always been amazed at their prices (pleasantly).

Glad it worked!!

Now, if you're like me, you buy five so you will have them-after all, they were cheap. Then, when you need another, you forget where you put them and buy five more. This technique is NOT recommended.

Well thanks guys, i was there but i guess i got lost in the maze. The point probably wore more from pen mandrels then the stress of carrying the weight of a billet of wood. The bearing are probably still in great shape.
