I've been doing a bunch of pens and stuff not worth posting lately.

Bur, I think this one should be seen by wood lovers!

The pen is a Gold Titanium Cigar dressed in Florida's finest classic wood.
Cross cut, end grain Antique Heart Pine.
I left the photo on the large side so that y'all can enjoy the
spectacular grain nearly as much as I do.
The wood this is from is said to be between 75-100 years old; locally grown
and harvested somewhere near Micanopy Florida.
The aroma of fresh turned antique heart pine is amazing; it's one of my favorite smelling woods.
Turned with a skew then finished with MM and CA, rubbed out with Novus
and topcoated with pure carnuba wax.

One day I learn how to use a camera; 'til then, this is the best I got.
Thanks for viewing. All comments and criticisms welcome.

The cross cut looks great. I have done a couple of heart pine, but now I will definately have to try one cross cut.

That is a beautiful wood - not sure I have ever seen it before. Like others I love the cross cut. Looks like you got a good fit at the bands too - spectacular.

Great looking pen Gary. And you are right, there aren't many smells better than when you cut heart pine. We have a table that is built with heart pine that is over 200 years old. I helped a guy cut ceiling joists out of an abandoned building that were 3" X 9" by 32'. That's after trimming each end about 3' short so that it would fall between the walls. Beautiful wood.

Thanks for all the really nice compliments. I really liked this pen; it's gorgeous wood.
But I'm such a dork!!! Yesterday afternoon with the pen in my shirt pocket, I was repairing something at the farm and needed to put some body force on one half to bring the other half together.
You guessed it -- I applied pressure with my chest without realizing what I was doing. [:0]
I cracked the lower barrel along the growth rings in several places [B)][:(]
They're barely noticeable (except to me) and I can refinish it and hide them but what a stupid thing to do!
Good thing I've got a bunch more of this wood or I'd be more pissed with myself than I am.
