If this is the same Pinon like we have here on Colorado, is part of the Pine family. Have not turned any of it, though do have access to whatever from my grandmothers ranch. Anywy...have cut quite a bit of it before and it is a soft open grain wood as I recall. Can be turned of course, but I would be prepared for tear-out and plenty of stabilization.
Thanks Mike for the info - Yeah that is it. They sell it here on the east coast to use in your outdoor fire pit to smell pretty and keep away the mosquitoes. Wal-Mart sells it by the bag. I had gotten some Mesquite Chunks for the grill from Wal-Mart and have made some wonderful pens from that, so I wanted to check on this wood to see if maybe it would be good also.
