I received a pink ivory cigar back from a customer today. The finish is cloudy at the nib end of the lower barrel and at the clip end of the upper. It had been finished with CA/BLO, just like I've finished the last 1000 or so wood pens that I've made.

I'm aware that olive, wenge, koa and a few other woods need some special treatment to keep them from clouding up, but I've only made a few pink ivory pens. Can someone tell me if pink ivory needs special handling. The cloudy areas were at the ends of the blank and they were coated in wax when I got it. Could it be that the ends of the blank still had some moisture because they didn't dry out as much as the middle? Moisture in the blank caused it to get cloudy?

Are you sure they didn't get compressed during the pressing of the hardware into the blanks?

I've found that happens to me if the pen kinks during pressing.
