I can't tell you how well they would sell, but I can attest to how much time it takes to find the right sized cone and get it cut down and stabilized. My brother developed a keen interest in making a pine cone pen and it has been a time consuming adventure. Many cones look as if they're big enough, only to find that the center is not dense enough to allow for drilling without destroying the blank. He was successful in making one pen so far, and the results are incredible. His pine cone blanks look quite a bit different from yours, so I guess there's a difference between species.

With all the problems involved, I now know that $10 would be a fair price, and perhaps a good price, but whether people would pay that, I just don't know.

It may seem obvious to some, but you may want to clarify if the blanks will be stabilized or if you're just providing the cut cone for $10. Were I in the market for something like that, I might pay $10 for a stabilized blank... but if it were just the cone, I'd ask a buddy to go outside and nab me a 5-gallon bag of cones from his front lawn for free.

I'm not sure exactly what you're selling, but $10 is about right for a stabilized pinecone blank. If if all you're selling is a pinecone...then it's out of my ballpark.

Have at it. Go find Coulter Pines that are long enough to complete a one piece cigar pen. The cut them on your band saw, if you have the right size. I am withdrawing my offer to sell these.

That is unfortunate, being someone that has scoured my yard w/ 20+ pine trees and yet to find one cone suitable for a pen. Trust me a cone big enough for a pen is a hard find.

I knew some one who knew pine cones would understand. Thank you.

Give me your address: jgrden@gmail.com Your kind remarks and understanding are appreciated. You will be pleasantly surprised at the size of this cone.

Sorry John I just seen this thread. I have gotten some of johns cones and they are big enough to Cigar pens. I stabalized them myself with cutis's cactus Jucies. I have a couple Aeros and a Sierra turned and CA'd but got busy with some others, so I dont have them finished
Seeing that these cones are hard to come by. $10 is not a bad price. With some blanks that are selling on here and other places for $10---$15. They also make very good conversation starters.

I will chime in here also been watching this thread. I don't need any cones but do know the Coulter Pine Cone. If some one was to do some searching they are only found in the mountains of southern California and are the largest of the pine cones not your common cone.
.

John, I would buy them in either state, but right now they are not even on the need list. They look really nice though! If in the future I look into making some hopefully you will reconsider your offer to sell a few!

J,

My apologies if you took my post the wrong way. I was merely hoping you would clarify if these were already stabilized for the sake of the ad. I was not trying to say these were not worth the cost to those unable to do so themselves, merely that I personally would use a known source if they were not.

I have some absolutely huge pinecones that fall off of trees into my back yard all the time. These things are monsters such that I'm afraid somebody will get hit and croak!

I don't think I could make an aero out of one once all the fluff is trimmed off. Cones large enough for a cigar must be worth dodging:biggrin:
