Picture frames

Here are two picture frames I put together using figured maple. I have lots of thins I picked up as rejects from the guitar companies. I also carved this little bowl out of a maple burl using an angle grinder.

What type of wood is the middle photo?
That is amazing, but it looks fake.

The wood in the second photo is quilted maple dyed black then sanded lightly. It is very chatoyant. It is a similar process to what they do for electric guitar tops.
