So this one guy kept selling his kits, and supplies on ebay for less than cost. I figured he must be getting out of the pen business. I noticed one of the ads mentioned that some of his display boxes were engraved on the bottom with a domain name. Went and checked it out and sure enough, he was closing his pen business down 9/1... So I emailed him (had already purchased several other items from him), and he made me an offer I couldn't refuse so to speak. A little more than I was hoping for, but less than I actually expected. So I did a deal where I put up 1/2 while he was finishing up business and on the 1st, sent the other 1/2. Then it took Volusion 10 days to do their transfer part. Some registrars are just a pain that way.

Anyway, long story not so short... I now own HandMadePens.com

Great generic search term naming. Just got to jump on building it out before google realizes it's changed too much.

I'm thinking of playing with OSCommerce. I've done some stuff with PrestaShop, but don't like some features of it. Anyone have any suggestions on what works well for things are 1 of a kind and not commodity?

Thanks,
Rob

Thanks! The last couple of days, I've been playing with OSCommerce, Magento, and a few others... Basically, doing a basic setup, adding a pen, etc. After trying several of them, and realizing I don't particularly like any of them, I went back to OSCommerce. Not that I like it, but that I dislike it less than the others. There's enough support out there since it's been around so long that I should be able to find what I need pretty easily. So now the real fun begins... build it out and stock before 9/29 when it gets revealed at the next show.

I don't know about that rich and famous part... If I have to choose, I'll take the former over the latter. :)

Im glad you got it! I ran across it, but I decided not to buy it for a few reasons. I didn't want to advertise it here as I didn't know if that would be within form rules. It was a good price! I hope it serves you well!
