On my older computer I always used Picture It to fix my photos and resize and do all the things needed for photos from my cameras. I easily transferred to folders and the such. I see now that that program is not available for Windows 10 so I ask what is everyone using and what is a good free program for photo work? Thanks in advance.

I use Gimp. This is a generic photo editing program originally created for Unix computers to emulate the capabilities of PhotoShop. Later, it was ported over to a Windows version. It's free. It is quite powerful, which means that it has a lot of features that I haven't tried to learn how to use.

The basic functionality that I use it for includes:
  • increasing overall sharpness (filters| | enhance | sharpen)
  • adjusting contrast (colors | brightness-contrast)
  • adjusting exposure (colors | exposure)
  • adjusting colors (colors | hue - saturation)
  • converting to monochrome (colors | desaturate | desaturate)
  • scaling (image | scale)
  • cropping (look for the 'rectangle select' in the tool box, then image | crop to selection)

GIMP is an excellent program, quite powerful and PhotoShop compatible. I use it, and PhotoShop but my go for simple and fast photo editing is Snapseed. I have it on my phone and computers.

I used Photoshop since it was first on the market.....I think the first version was P/S 2, I had. Gimp is constructed in similar fashion and works quite well. I haven't used it since I retired in 20' but did mess with it a few times trying to help some customers in my Camera Store/Studio....
I would recommend it.....

There are a lot of decent programs out there, John. I thin one of the keys will be to find one with a similar interface to the Picture It program you used to use.

Most of the new programs will work well, so shortening the learning curve will make the translation easier.

I use Paint.net and Pixel It right now for different purposes.

This is what I want. I am not looking for a drawing program I want something just to sharpen photos and to resize and then send to a file.

Gimp is really powerful, but there is probably quite a learning curve if you are used to simple. For quick edits, you might try photoscape. Photoscape 10 is available in free or pro for $39.99. I'm still using 3.7, even on Windows 11 and it's got some great and simple features for a free app (no ads or nag screens to upgrade). The batch processing is nice for resizing and it's pretty fast.
