This is a Personal twist pen, in gold, from Wooden Quill. It has a long body, almost 3-7/8". The wood is unknown, but could possibly be mahogany. Whatever it is, it has some interesting grain.

Many years ago, wife and I bought a small chest freezer from Montgomery Wards (I did say many years ago). It came on a pallet that was constructed from a hard wood that looked very much like this pen. The freezer was actually made in Italy, so I assumed that the wood was a variety of oak that grows in Europe rather than the red and white varieties we re most accustomed to seeing in North America.

So my guess is that it is some kind of oak.

I know some turners don't care for oak. I actually like it.

I would have guessed oak from looking at the grain. I have some variety of mahogany and it doesn't look like that.

I've made a lot of oak pens over the years, I like it too. I even made a pen out of Siberian oak one time, for a Russian friend. But this doesn't look like oak to me, the grain isn't coarse enough. Unless it's some variety of oak I'm not familiar with.

It looks like Mango to me as well. I have a bunch of stabilized mango blanks, which have very similar grain. Not identical, but, there are probably varieties of mango...

The pen is very nice! The wood goes well with the fittings.
