So today we have another perfect storm. Everything (schools, governmet offices, mom and pop stores, senior centers, etc) closed early in anticipation of 6 to 10 inches. Started snowing at noon and we have maybe 3/4 of an inch on the ground. Blowing pretty good but not dropping a lot of white stuff. North of us seems to be getting more but this is the second time this year that Milford got set to be buried and got next to nothing. WalMart, Food Lion and other big box stores love it as people stock up in case they can't get out for a month.

At least if the Government office are closed and in DC, no harm can be done or less harm depending how you look at. We could sure use some of those Perfect storms out here in the west. We T-shirts to dog park in Mid January shouldn't happening, we shouldn't be going to the dog park every as it is. Last rain .03" on December 7 we have broken the longest winter stretch of now rain on record and will continue to set a new record every day until rains. If we make until the end of the month if will the first January on record with now rain. To top all off I am attending a new conference in the morning with the local Congress women, City Councilmen and FEMA announcing that on May 14 we will no longer be required to carry Flood Insurance. Which will save me $1500 a year.

Smitty, at least you have that new lathe to keep you going -- you did get an emergency generator so you could turn during power outages -- right?

Harry

I've thought about getting a generator too, but then I looked at how often we loose power now and couldn't justify it.

Do you loose power a lot Smitty?

How much snow did you end up getting?

Happy Turning

We ended up with 4 - 5 inches but it was light and blowing and most of it blew out of my driveway so we just had about 8 or 9 feet of sidewalk and the deck to clear.

We decided we don't lose power all that often either and when we do it's usually for pretty short (4 or 5 hours is the longest in 8 years we've been here) intervals. So we decided not to do it.

The main concern we have is that even though we have natural gas everything in the house is electric so we are totally dead in the water if the power goes out.

Man do I envy the east right now. I live in Colorado and I so wish we were getting all that snow! We have been so dry this winter and the brown grass and brown trees look so much better when covered with snow.

Here in southwest Idaho we haven't had a good snowfall in over a decade. People here can't drive on dry roads in the summer, get a couple snowflakes falling and they're off the road all over the place. Makes me wish I could afford a tow truck, I'd probably have the truck paid off in one winter LOL.

Smitty, living here in South Louisiana, we get some severe weather, we put in a whole house generator and it was a great investment. we lost power for about 4 hours, I didn't know it in the shop. The biggest thing is the comfort knowing that we will have power at night if we loose power. At my age I worry about comfort more than anything else.

it would be a great peace of mind and worth the investment.
