Can anyone tell me what platings come with the Perfect Fit Into Kit from Berea?
It includes 10 kits and bushings but doesn't give an option to select different platings. Do you have to choose 1 plating and style for all 10?
Thanks!

Lenny:
Berea's Perfect intro kit includes YOUR CHOICE of chrome or "upgrade" gold in either centerband "A" or "B". You get to select how many you want of each.

My suggestion would be to buy all chrome and NO gold, and your preference of centerbands.

I've had TERRIFIC results from PF chrome..... No so much luck from "upgrade" gold.

The good news is that TN Gold had nice quantity price breaks at 20, 100 and 500 quantities.

I hope this helps!

When you select it for your shopping cart, you get a drop down to select how many of each you want.

BEWARE: If this is your first make on these, THEY USE A "B" Mandrel and bushings. AND these are a little difficult to TBC.

It seems to be 10 of one style or the other though ... correct ... not 5 of A and 5 of B?

Thanks Andy, I will probably go with the Chrome style A.
I was tempted to get some Gold ... but I know you are right.

Lenny:
To be technically accurate, the Berea "upgrade" gold is as good as anyone else's "24K" gold. I just don't make anything less than TN Gold because it has "burned me" in the past.

TN gold is SUBSTANTIALLY MORE. But IMHO worth the extra $.

Respectfully submitted. The intro price puts you into PF for +/- $6.....the same price as PSI. Et al, 7mm Cross refills.

I just went BHWs website and could order any quantity of any of the 4 configurations I wanted to make up the 10.

I also noticed that the priced is now $85, not $65:(

I have the B mandrel. I suspected they might be more difficult to TBC ... because of the need for the relief for the CB.
Do you use the O bit or a 8.2?

I use both bits, Lenny. It's dependent on whether or not I'm reverse painting. I just looked in the Jacobs set loaded for PF, and they are loaded at 11/32 and O. The last PFs I made were PR and back painted.

8.2 and O are so close.....

On the relief cut for the CB, I just cut the top blank at 1 7/8 inch, glue the tube flush to one of the squared ends....AND FORGET ALL THAT PARTING NONSENSE. They turn out perfectly square at the centerband every time AND the CB fits exactly without glueing, yutzing, etc.

Do you have any trouble with excess glue when gluing the tubes in that way or are you able to clean it up sufficiently before the glue dries? I suppose it would just be a matter of a cleanup cut with a parting tool at the worst.

When I tried to order some of each .... 10 in all ... all of a sudden my cart said $850 :eek::eek::biggrin:

LOL! I guess that answers THAT question! Might be worth a phone call. They are terrific to work with!

Lenny:
I use 5 minute Epoxy and just wipe the excess glue off of the exposed tube. Additionally, I pack all pen tubes with plumber's putty. This keeps the inside of the tubes nice and clean, and the putty can be pushed out and reused.
