This is a mechanical pencil I made for myself out of walnut.
I followed Don Ward's article on modifying the Pentel Pencil (not the one in the library, but the updated one on his website that used a pin chuck) without the step drill. I have to say that it's a fairly challenging project, this one worked on the first try, but I destroyed the next two purpleheart ones I tried to do afterwards.

Nice going. I really like pentel conversions. There are step drills available as well as a dedicated mandrel for making these conversions. I can find the source if interested. Also, there is a clever way to make them that I wish I had thought of but it was someone else. Follow this link:
